NSA Regulation Changes as of July 2017

All repertoire performed in the auditions must be performed from memory. This includes selections from oratorios and cantatas.

Timing begins when the singer announces his/her first selection.

Students must meet the following requirements for repertoire performed in their auditions:

High School Division

  • 3A - Lower High School Women
  • 4A - Lower High School Men
  • 3B - Upper High School Women
  • 4B - Upper High School Men

Three contrasting selections from classical repertoire.  One Art song in English.  One art song in a foreign language.  One additional art song or aria.

8 minutes limit.

College Division

Lower College Categories

  • 7A First Year College/Independent Studio Women
  • 8A First Year College/Independent Studio Men
  • 7B Second Year College/Independent Studio Women
  • 8B Second Year College/Independent Studio Men

Three contrasting selections from classical repertoire.  One Aria or Art song. One Art Song in English.  One art song in a foreign language.

10 minutes limit.

Upper College Categories

  • 11A Third Year College/Independent Studio Women
  • 12A Third Year College/Independent Studio Men
  • 11B Fourth/Fifth Year College/Independent Studio Women
  • 12B Fourth/Fifth Year College/Independent Studio Men

12 minutes limit.

Advanced Categories

  • 13 Advanced College/Independent Studio Women
  • 14 Advanced College/Independent Studio Men

Five contrasting selections from classical repertoire.  One operatic Aria.  One oratorio/cantata Aria.  One Art Song in English.  One Art Song in a foreign language.  One additional selection from the classical repertoire.  At least three languages must be represented

15 minutes limit.

Adult Division

Any adult who is currently studying voice and is older than 22 as of October 10, may participate in the adult division. There is no maximum age limit for this division. There will beShou no competition in this division but critiques will be given. The purpose of this division is to offer critique to the serious older student who may not be eligible for participation in the competitive College or Graduate Divisions.

A minimum of 3 songs chosen at the discretion of the singer. Songs must represent at least 2 languages, including English.
